SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s Model Congress will hold the first round of its online debating championship Oct. 8-10, according to a Sept. 9 email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AUSMC\u2019s Executive Board announced the switch to an online championship due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the need to place the safety and welfare of the AUS community first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The message came in an email forwarded by the office of the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The online championship is open to university and high school students from all around the United Arab Emirates. It will have 16 four-person teams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As seats will be limited, participants will go through an interview process; only those with \u201cextraordinary\u201d debate skills will compete, according to the organizer\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The championship consists of four rounds: Preliminaries from Oct. 8-10, quarter-finals Oct. 16-17, semifinals Oct. 24, and runner up and finals Oct. 31. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
