{"id":52,"date":"2020-02-26T12:17:03","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T08:17:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmintranet.aus.edu\/?p=52"},"modified":"2026-05-11T12:47:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:47:00","slug":"caad-hosts-workshop-on-16-mm-moviemaking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2020\/02\/26\/caad-hosts-workshop-on-16-mm-moviemaking\/","title":{"rendered":"CAAD hosts workshop on 16 mm moviemaking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Karim Aziz Oghly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY \u2013 Thirteen students at the American University of Sharjah, with no apparent commitments on Valentine\u2019s Day, had the opportunity to attend a workshop detailing the process of recording on and developing 16-millimeter motion picture film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mcmintranet.aus.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Cunningham.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54\" width=\"265\" height=\"331\"\/><figcaption>photo by Trey Pentecost<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Alex Cunningham, a filmmaker based in the United States, visited AUS to share his knowledge of the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Cunningham said the students were so \u201cfull of curiosity and passion, and [executed] the techniques with success we rarely see with first time filmmakers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna Kipervaser, visiting assistant professor at the College of Architecture, Art and Design,<br>\norganized the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the workshop exceeded its proposed time frame, lasting 10 hours, the projects did not reach the final stage of contact printing, which would result in a positive normal image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Cunningham scanned the developed negative rolls of film and provided participants with digital copies of their videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hadi Damer, a workshop attendee, said using the camera felt as if he had time traveled into the past and made him appreciate modern imaging technology more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Karim Aziz Oghly UNIVERSITY CITY \u2013 Thirteen students at the American University of Sharjah, with no apparent commitments on Valentine\u2019s Day, had the opportunity to attend a workshop detailing the process of recording on and developing 16-millimeter motion picture film.
