{"id":4433,"date":"2023-04-20T17:06:33","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T13:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=4433"},"modified":"2026-05-11T12:46:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:46:52","slug":"aus-teams-dominate-intercollegiate-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2023\/04\/20\/aus-teams-dominate-intercollegiate-tourney\/","title":{"rendered":"AUS teams dominate intercollegiate tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Saud Mubarak&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2014 American University of Sharjah sports teams dominated the Intercollegiate Ramadan Sports Tournament, held at AUS from April 10-15 with the participation of 12 different universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organized by the Student Athletics and Recreation Department, under the Office of Student Affairs, the tournament involved men\u2019s and women\u2019s football, basketball, and volleyball teams.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUS dominated the competition, achieving four first-place trophies and one runner-up, in several cases defeating rivals from Rochester Institute of Technology in the final games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In men\u2019s volleyball, Police Science Academy Sharjah finished in first place after defeating Gulf Medical University Ajman in straight sets. In the men\u2019s football finals, American University in the Emirates defeated AUS 2-0.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUS did better in men\u2019s basketball, defeating RIT 42-39 in a seesaw, nail-biting final.
