{"id":4388,"date":"2023-03-11T15:54:01","date_gmt":"2023-03-11T11:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=4388"},"modified":"2026-05-11T12:46:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:46:52","slug":"open-day-event-introduces-writing-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2023\/03\/11\/open-day-event-introduces-writing-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Day event introduces Writing Center"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Samreen Akther&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah students learned about the Writing Center and socialized with faculty and peers who work there during an Open Day event March 9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Maria Eleftheriou, head of the Writing Centre, said she had begun planning the event in the spring 2020 semester, when a past peer tutor gave her the idea, but it wasn\u2019t possible then due to the pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She described the center, which continued to function online during the pandemic, as having had a positive effect during those difficult times. She added that she was proud of both the peer tutors and the students who used the center to improve their writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Konstantina Spyropoulou, a graduate tutor and one of the longest working peers, said she began working there during her undergraduate year and came back again during her master\u2019s.
