{"id":4043,"date":"2022-12-01T09:50:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T05:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=4043"},"modified":"2026-05-11T12:46:53","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:46:53","slug":"aus-students-paint-to-ease-stress-before-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2022\/12\/01\/aus-students-paint-to-ease-stress-before-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"AUS students paint to ease stress before finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Salma Ghalwash<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharjah, UAE: Students painted canvases before finals in an event hosted by the Sudanese Cultural Club at the American University of Sharjah\u2019s gazebo area, on Nov. 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yusr Mohamed, the Vice President of the Sudanese Cultural Club explained that the \u201cPaint and Sip\u201d event combined painting as a therapeutic activity with traditional Sudanese drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPainting in a group environment helps people detach from the stress at a time of projects and finals,\u201d said Mohamed during an interview. \u201cBut students also get to try a little taste of the Sudanese culture through sharing drinks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Activities Coordinator of the club, Azza Mukhtar, highlighted that the most requested drink was a cold hibiscus tea called \u201ckarkade.\u201d Club members served other drinks made from native plants like the baobab fruit, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese drinks are very traditional, familiar flavors that we have in Sudan,\u201d Mohamed said. She said the outdoor seating area had floral decorations to match the hibiscus theme of the drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was the first time we hosted the event,\u201d Mukhtar said. She added that the idea of painting canvases arose from club members sharing a common interest in art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mohamed, group activities, like painting, bring people and the Sudanese community at AUS together.
