UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s Performing Arts Department hosted an end-of-year concert on May 9 consisting of several classical and contemporary musical performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Soire\u00e9 Musicale, which translates to \u201ca musical evening\u201d in French, featured Applied Voice students, the AUS Choir, and the Arabic Music Ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll of the groups come together for a very diverse show. It\u2019s usually very entertaining because it\u2019s not the same music throughout the whole night,\u201d said Assistant Professor Albert Nasser Agha. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some AUS alumni also performed alongside students. \u201cI always look forward to the beginning of the performance because we play an instrumental, heavy, meditative piece of classical Arabic music. It\u2019s like a blank sheet of paper that starts the night,\u201d said Agha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two nights before the concert, they test the sound and microphones to ensure everything goes smoothly. Then, they do a final dress rehearsal a night before the show, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furat Abdeljaber, a solo and duet singer and an ensemble and choir performer, said she had to consistently practice her posture, breathing, and pitch for the solo piece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of work, but it surely pays off,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noor Sherazi, bass player for the ensemble and choir, said that practicing with a group of people and seeing everyone\u2019s work come together is the best part of music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sherazi said that the preparation process during Ramadan timings made practice \u201cmore condensed\u201d than usual, which both the ensemble and choir had to adjust to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
