UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 Sharjah Police interviewed a visitor detained by the American University of Sharjah security after he harassed an AUS student during the March 11 Global Day event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gafar Abdul Rahman, AUS\u2019s administrative security officer, said they interviewed the man involved and handed the case over to the police after realizing he was not affiliated with the university. Eventually, the visitor apologized to the student. Abdel-Rahman said that the student confirmed to the police and internal security at the university that she did not want to take legal measures against that person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. in a crowded area on the AUS plaza where several hundred people were watching a dabke <\/em>performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The student reported the incident and pointed out the respondent to an AUS security officer, who, accompanied by Sharjah police, apprehended him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Had the respondent been an AUS student, he would have undergone conduct procedures as mentioned in the student handbook, said Senior Manager for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution Juliet Coutinho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said AUS students can report incidents via the university\u2019s website at\u00a0https:\/\/aus<\/a>-advocate.symplicity.com\/public_report\/<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
