UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 The United Arab Emirates\u2019 Ministry of Education has awarded the American University of Sharjah a \u201chigh confidence\u201d rating, a status which confers significant benefits, AUS\u2019s chancellor reported in a Nov. 14 message to faculty and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Susan Mumm noted that the ministry rating means AUS\u2019s \u201creview cycles have been extended from four to seven years, institutional accreditation reviews will be simplified, and new program applications will be fast-tracked.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that AUS is one of only five UAE universities to receive \u201chigh confidence\u201d status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Describing her own report to the Oct. 24 Board of Trustees meeting, Mumm wrote that the session was held in \u201chybrid\u201d mode, and included discussion of her priorities as AUS chancellor. These include focusing on student experience; expanding community engagement; improving campus sustainability (including AUS becoming a net-zero university); and enhancing the university\u2019s national and international reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Student numbers \u201care tracking as expected, with significant growth at the doctoral level,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other topics discussed included possible awarding of honorary degrees; establishing a Women\u2019s Leadership Center; and forming a committee to mark AUS\u2019s Silver Jubilee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
