UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The brain has several ways of memory retrieval and students should study based on the method they are being tested on, Rama Sabano, senior academic coach at the American University of Sharjah, said Thursday.

Sabano, from the Academic Support Center, spoke with media communication students about effective exam preparation and strategies for answering multiple-choice questions.

She encouraged students to take a walk before a test, eat a healthy and light breakfast, and get to class early. She discouraged them from changing answers based on perceived patterns or getting distracted by others.

Sitting in the same seat in a classroom regularly can also help with recalling information, she added. The brain remembers familiar surroundings, Sabano noted, making information easier to recover.

Sabano urged students who are struggling academically to seek help early on by talking to their professors or visiting the ASC for free resources and support from academic coaches.
